1916 - the public library was in the rest room of the old town hall, 1917 moved to second floor of Brewer Block on main street, 1919 to the brick building on Highland Street. Mrs. Cora Anspach was the first librarian.
1916 - the Research club originated in 1916 as a music and literary club with a membership of 14, through the efforts of Mrs. Chauncey Bohannon and Mrs. Michael Felker.
During the 25 years the club contributed to general relief, Chinese relief, the federal home in Washington, Red Cross, and acts of service.
In later years the club has contributed to the public library, has participated in the Youth Center and the County Home project, and given to the Retarded Children’s fund and to Judge Pettit for the needy. In 48 years of existence (1964) 140 members have taken part in its activities.
