As the American farmer continues to age, is the younger generation interested in continuing the tradition? Are the older farmers willing to help the younger generation?

I grew up on a small farm in Northwest Ohio. I knew from the age of five that I wanted to farm. I’ve never been given a farm or a bunch of cash. But my parents have given me all the help in the world. As a result, I have learned the importance of work ethics from a young age.

Sixth-generation farmer Austin Heil created the Cursive Ohio charitable bike ride as a one-time thank you to people he met while finishing his first half IM Ohio. Ten years on, Heil draws riders to the Ada area for a beautiful, flat outing where they follow a route that spells O-h-I-o in cursive letters.

Kevin A. Rex, age 56, of Ada, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Serenity Spring, Arlington, after spending many years at Serenity Living Center, Ottawa.

Kevin was born on March 3, 1970, in Columbus, son of the late Norman J. and Kay A. (Maxson) Rex. He is survived by his three siblings: Sylvia (Ron) Jurcak of Burton, Valerie (Jamie) Hall of Ada and Clinton (Tracy) Rex of Marietta, GA; seven nieces and nephews; and a beloved great-niece and great-nephew.
