Bernie and Brenda Mackey and Ada Lions collect glasses for re-use around the world

Bernie Mackey and his wife, Brenda, help people see clearly.

The Mackeys, with the Ada Lions Club, have collected used eyeglasses in the Ada community and beyond for about 10 years.

These eyeglasses are collected from people who have dropped old glasses off at local collection sites.

These collection sites iinclude Eyes on Main, VFW, Ada Public Library, Kenny's Barbershop, Keith's Hardware, Reichert's, Ada Visiting Nurses and Shawnee Optical.

After picking up the glasses at these various sites Bernie and Brenda take them to Vosh Ohio in Pandora, an eyeglass sorting site.

Ethan Zimmerman is an ONU student summer vocational discernment intern. He assists with the noon free lunches orchestrated by ReStore. The noon meals are offered Mondays through Friday's at the Ada park.

Senior swim team members were recognized during this past weekend's Western Ohio Aquatic League championships, including Ethan Daniels, from Ada Alligators. The entire list of league seniors follows:

Several students from Hardin County area school district surrounding Ada were named to the spring Ohio Northern University dean’s list.

To be eligible, a student must attain a 3.5 grade point average or higher and be a full-time student.

The Blanchard Pleasant Buckeyes met on Monday, July 8 in the Hardin Northern Ag Building.  Here's an overview of that meeting:

The meeting was led by president Megan Miller. Recreation for the night was gaga ball ran by Heidi Trachsel.  Pledge of Allegiance was led by Cameron Wykes and the 4-H Pledge by Hayden Sampson. Mariann Woodruff gave a presentation over her project. Trivia was given by Carl Woodruff and Wesley Linke.

The Lord’s Prayer was led by Aidan Gatchell. Refreshments were provided by Hayden Sampson and Wesley Linke.
