Wrestling improves to 3-0 in OAC duals with 30-9 victory at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Northern wrestling team picked up another dual meet victory Tuesday evening in the Rike Center, defeating host Otterein 30-9.
This victory improves the Polar Bears to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. This keeps the team tied at the top of the OAC along with #9 Baldwin Wallace and Heidelberg.
Ohio Northern also clinches its third consecutive winning season and its 10th straight non-losing campaign.
Otterbein falls to 12-5, 1-3.
Ohio Northern was led by freshman Nate Barcaskey (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area), who picked up a fall at heavyweight for Ohio Northern.
Senior Brad Taton (Mentor/Lake Catholic), freshman Aidan Pierobon (Rochester Hills, Mich./Stoney Creek), and sophomore Gavin Nelson (Oregon/Clay) were able to pick up major decisions for ONU.
Ohio Northern was able to win the first seven matches of the dual to take a 24-0 lead.
At 125 pounds, freshman Seth Transue (Plain City/Dublin) was able to score a late takedown to win his match 4-3.
Brad Taton was able to win his 133-pound match by major decision 12-1.
At 141 pounds, Peirobon won his match 15-2 advancing the team score to 11-0.
Junior Dylan Dolph (Canton/South) was able to secure a late takedown and edge out his opponent 5-4 at 149 pounds.
At 157, Nelson was able to win his match 15-2. This made the team score 18-0.
Junior Seth Meyer (Defiance) won by decision 8-1 at 165 to lift the Polar Bears lead to 21-0.
Senior Kyler Deeter (Covington) was able to score some early takedowns to ensure his win 8-3 at 174.
The Cardnials were able to get on the board with a fall at 184 pounds and a decision at 197 pounds.
But Barcaskey wasted no time pinning his opponent in 2:47 seconds to clinch the 30-9 victory.
The Polar Bears will return to action Friday night with a 7:30 pm dual meet at No. 9-ranked Baldwin Wallace in a battle of league unbeatens.
