By Monty Siekerman
The Ada High School Varsity Quiz Bowl Team won the 40-team Quiz Bowl Invitational held at the Wright State University Lake Campus.
The win enables the Bulldog team to advance to compete in the Ohio Academic Championships regional competition to be held in Van Wert in May.
Ada not only won the small school division, but also outpointed bigger schools such as Bath and St. Marys to capture the overall crown. Ada last captured a win in this prestigious tournament in 1993.
Dave Lusk is long-time advisor of the team.
According to tournament format, each school competed against three other schools simultaneously. Each school in a round was given points for their place compared to other schools in the room in addition to the number of questions answered correctly.
Ada captured the crown with 141 total points while Bath, winner of the large school division, posted 136 and St. Mary’s, 131.
Bluffton, runner-up in the small school division accumulated 123 points. For the tournament, Ada placed first in five of the eight rounds and second in the remaining three.
