Marilyn Jean Sumney in Vancrest spotlight this month
Marilyn Jean Sumney is in the Resident Spotlight at Vancrest this month. The newsletter says that Jean once raised 200 rose bushes. Being a switchboard operator was her favorite job. The newsletter continues:
Jean was born on July 26. She grew up in this area graduating from Layfette Jackson school which is now Allen East. Jean enjoys the summertime and the warm weather that comes along with it the most.
Along with the warm weather, Jean enjoys going to Florida since that is where she said was her favorite vacation. She enjoyed hunting for shark teeth on the beach and visiting family and friends. Another Florida trip is what Jean said was still on her bucket list.
Even though Jean enjoys all of this warmth and sunshine, she said that Christmas is her favorite holiday. Jean enjoys watching TV and relaxing in her easy chair. She is also a meat and potato girl, her favorite foods. Watching football is something else Jean said she enjoys doing.
Jean was married to Dallas Cheney for 40 years and had their daughter, Linda, before they later divorced. Jean was then married to Fred for 20 years.
Jean said that she worked as a switchboard operator and that was her favorite job. We asked Jean what was her favorite part of life today and she said just glad to be alive.
Learning new things when she was younger was the only thing she said she would change about her life. Something we didn't know about Jean was that she has taken a painting class in the past and that most people call her "Nana" in the family and at church.
Jean enjoyed raising rose bushes and at one point had 200 to care for. She also enjoyed growing herbs that she used when she cooked for her family.
Jean is a fun loving lady when she comes out to play bingo, going to Bible study, and enjoys socializing with her tablemates at meals.
She is about as sweet as they come and very soft spoken. We enjoy having her around just to visit with as she always likes visitors if they pop into her room.
