Arthur G Matson 1930-2017
Arthur G. Matson, age 87, died on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.at his residence in Dola.
He was born on April 3, 1930 in Hardin County, Ohio to Lawrence D. and Pauline (Gillen) Matson who preceded him in death. On October 7, 1966 Arthur married Patricia Lee and she survives in Dola.
Arthur was a farmer, wood sculpter and artist. He was a 1948 graduate of Dola High School. Arthur served in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953 in the military police in Virginia. He was a member of the Dola Presbyterian Church. Arthur served as a volunteer at Lima Memorial Health System for five years.
Also surviving are his children: Eric (Denise) Matson of Bellville, Keith Matson of Lima and Melinda (Wesley) Hipsher of Dunkirk; six grandchildren: Haley (Nathan) Stidham, Molly Hipsher, Kyle Hipsher, Brady Hipsher, Logan Matson and Emily Matson; two great grandchildren: Karleigh and Koby Stidham; a sister, Phyllis Scott of Ada; and a sister-in-law, Delores Matson of Dunkirk.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert Matson and twin brother Arden Matson; sister-in-law, Betty Matson; and brother-in-law, Walter Scott.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 1 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Pastor Dave Stanford officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada with graveside military services conducted by the Ada VFW Post #9381 Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Putnam County Hospice Care and/or the charity of the donor’s choice
