He's retiring after one-half century plus 2 years
By Monty Siekerman
Bob McCurdy retires today after 52 years of working, 22 years at ONU. But it's not only Bob's work that counts, but also his community involvement, all supported by his wife Myrna.
There is a quote from Bob on the ReStore Facebook page today, saying, "It has been a wonderful journey filled with a great wife, great family, and great friends!"
In Ada, Bob could be found at the library board meeting getting the building project on track, heading the rebuilding of the fire-destroyed United Methodist Church, at countless ONU sporting events, smiling and knowing everyone's name as he enters ReStore. He's a man about town, but humbly so.
And he's twisted a few arms, but twisted nicely, to get major donations to the university. Bob has a way of explaining the need to those who are inclined to make lead gifts for buildings, scholarships or whatever. ONU students will be forever grateful to him for excellent buildings and equipment, for the scholarship, and in many other small ways.
And, he regularly reads the Ada Icon, making brief but to-the-point comments when he sees something particularly positive.
In Ada, Bob is an Icon. Happy retirement! See ya around.
