James R. "Jim" Gibson 1941 - 2017

James "Jim" Gibson passed away on July 28th, 2017 at Lima Memorial Health System at 11:39 a.m.

He was born on August 20th, 1941 to the late Roy and Mary (Appleton) Gibson. On July 17, 1965 Jim married Victoria L. “Vickie” Fry who preceded him in death on August 8, 2004.

Jim was a Mountain Dew drinkin, cigarette smokin, old car lovin, Suduko solvin, crypto-quote crackin,  stubborn man who had a sweet tooth for Dilly Bars, Milky Ways, and Smoky Mountain Taffy. Speaking his mind and telling you if he didn't like something was his specialty. After working for 44 years at Findlay Industries, he retired and began staying up all night and sleeping throughout the day listening to the scanner for police and ambulance calls. He was a former Alger Police Officer and EMT for many years with the Alger EMS. Jim enjoyed sitting on his couch at home while watching tv, especially watching Cops with Steven, and napping before the 6 o'clock news started or taking a cruise to get cigarettes if one of his grandkids wasn't around to get them for him. He constantly said he hated his cat, Ariel, but refused to get rid of her. He loved feeding her way too many treats and playing fetch with her except for the times Ariel would bring a dead mouse or snake back instead of the toy. Jim loved his family more than anything in this world and tried to make it to every family gathering happening even if he could only stay a couple of minutes. Although his family will miss him tremendously every day, he is now in a better place with his late wife, Vickie Gibson.

James is survived by two sons: James (Theresa) Gibson of Hampton, VA and Kenny (Alicia) Gibson of Ada; four daughters: Patty Burmeister of Dayton, Kathy (Doyle) Helton of Alger, Robin (Doug) LaRue of Alger and Jodi (Ryan Marquart) Gibson of Alger; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren; three brothers: Leroy (Linda) Gibson of Dunkirk, Chuck (Darlene) Gibson of Findlay and Roger Gibson of Findlay; and a sister, Sally Miller of Findlay.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Gibson; a sister, Barbara Hess; and a son-in-law, Russ Burmeister.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger with Pastor Tom Dearth officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
