'Bears ranked 25th nationally in D3 volleyball
The Ohio Northern volleyball team is ranked No. 25 in the first weekly American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, released Tuesday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (3-1) received 135 points in the poll, which is 126 fewer than the 261 they received as the No. 22-ranked team in the AVCA preseason poll in August.
Calvin (Mich.) topped the poll with 1,675 points and all 67 first place votes, Northwestern (Minn.) is second with 1,526 points and Southwestern (Tex.) is third with 1,474 points.
Northern finished the 2016 season with a 27-4 record and a perfect 9-0 record in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while being ranked No. 24 in the final AVCA poll.
The Polar Bears will return to action Friday and Saturday at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational. ONU will face #22 Elmhurst (Ill.), Illinois Wesleyan, DePauw (ind.) and Aurora (Ill.) in the tournament.
