Three Hardin County babies born in Bluffton Hospital in April

Bluffton Hospital reports the following babies were born from Hardin County residents in April:

April 10 – Asher Gideon Paul Neville, son of Tom and Carrie Neville, Forest, 6 pounds, 7 ounces, 19 ½ inches.

April 14 – Cash Harrison Alger, son of Nick and Jenifer Alger, Ada, 19 inches, 7 pounds, 10 ounces.

April 23 – Briar Marie Davis, daughter of Nate and Antwilla Davis, Kenton, 21 inches, 7 pounds, 13 ounces.

Steven G. Joseph 1966-2012

Services for Steven G. Joseph will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Ada Full Gospel Church by the Rev. Karen Rarey. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery in Alger.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. He died at 9:44 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012 as the result of a bicycle/automobile accident in Jacksonville, Fla.

He was born April 26, 1966 in Lima to Bernie L. Joseph and Shirley S. (Barnett) Blosser. His father and step-mother, Bernie and Debbie Joseph, survive in Ada and his mother and step-father, Shirley and Joe Blosser, survive in Elida.

Lots of announcements for Ada HS students

As the 2011-12 school year winds down, several school announcements are making the rounds this week. 

STUDENT COUNCIL:  If you are interested in joining Student Council next year, pick up a petition from Mrs. Smith this week. Signed petitions will need to be returned by Wednesday, May 9.  There are 2 spots open for current 7th graders, 2 spots for current 8th graders, 2 spots for current 9th graders, 3 spots for current 10th graders and 2 spots for current 11th graders.

Ohio Northern University’s Harold Putt named Ohio’s mathematics professor of the year

Harold Putt, Ohio Northern University professor of mathematics and statistics, has received the 2012 Ohio Section Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics by the Ohio Section of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). Putt was honored at the association’s spring section meeting April 13.

This award recognizes teachers who are successful in their teaching, demonstrate documented effectiveness and influence beyond their college or university, and foster curiosity and generate excitement about mathematics in their students.

Approximately 600 receive diplomas May 13 at ONU

Ohio Northern University will celebrate its 2012 undergraduate commencement ceremony in the ONU Sports Center on Sunday, May 13, at 2 p.m. Approximately 600 students will be awarded degrees.

ONU alumnus Dr. Clayton L. Mathile will deliver the commencement address. Mathile was born Jan. 11, 1941, in Portage, Ohio. He himself paid for his freshman-year tuition at Ohio Northern and was a walk-on for the University’s basketball team. While initially a mechanical engineering major, Mathile eventually gravitated toward the business college, earning a Bachelor of Arts in business administration in 1962.
