Ada girl kickers win 2nd straight
By Cort Reynolds
ADA - The host Ada girls soccer team took a second half lead and held off Delphos Jefferson 3-2 in a Northwest Conference match Wednesday evening.
The Lady Bulldog victory improved their record to 4-9 overall and 3-2 in NWC play, good for fourth in the nine-team league standings.
DJ fell to 5-7 and 3-3 in league action with the defeat.
Ada scored first, but the Wildcats tied it with a goal late in the first half. The Bulldogs netted two unanswered goals after intermission to build a 3-1 lead.
DJ inched within 3-2 on a late goal, but the Ada defense held the Wildcats scoreless over the last seven-plus minutes to post their second, one-goal league win in three days.
"We were able to hold them off and secure the match," said Ada head coach Doug Poling.
Katie Butterfield scored two goals for the winners. Hailey Callahan added the other goal. Ella Poling passed out one assist.
Keeper Kenzie Long was credited with a dozen saves in goal for Ada.
The Bulldogs out-shot DJ, 26-12.
Ada (2-6 home) will try to make it three in a row at home this week when they entertain Paulding (1-9, 1-4 NWC) Saturday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m.
