Another first place for the Ada band
Ada High School Marching Band and Color Guard captured first place Saturday in class C as well as best percussion in classes B and C at the Bloom-Carroll Classic in Carroll with their chess themed performance.
In addition the group earned its third overall superior rating of the season.
In the evening, at the Tri-Valley Classic in Dresden, the group won first place. They also received the award for best color guard and for best percussion. The band not only received a superior rating for the fourth time this year, but also received straight I's, being rated superior by all nine judges.
The Marching Band received superior ratings in every area: general effects, color guard, music, percussion and visual effects.
Superior ratings reflect an outstanding performance with very few technical errors and exemplifying true musical expression. This rating is reserved for outstanding performances.
In addition to placement and scoring, bands must also receive an overall rating of superior to qualify for the state event. Qualification for state finals is determined regardless of band size.
The Marching Band will perform at the OMEA state finals at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hilliard Darby High School in Hilliard.
The AHS Band is composed of a 19 member winds ensemble, 5 percussionists, and 13 color guard members. The band is directed by of Jonathan Lischak, with Color Guard Director Amy Webb.
Student leadership includes Drum Majors Callie Young and Jake Colwell. Color Guard Captains are Lindsay Crouse, Maddie Preston, and Samantha Crawford.
