Billy Joe Murphy, 1934 - 2017
Billy Joe Murphy, age 83, died on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 12:35 a.m. at Vancrest of Ada.
He was born on March 17, 1934 in Pine Knot, Kentucky to the late Andrew and Pearl (Creekmore) Murphy. On October 5, 1956 Billy married Donna E. Brooks and she survives in Ada.
Billy retired from Scot Lad Foods where he worked as a truck driver. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran who served during the Korean War. He was a member of the LaFayette Missionary Baptist Church. Billy was a member of the Sager Lodge F&AM #513, a former holder of the 32nd Degree Mason of Dayton and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star #121.
Billy is also survived by his daughter, Glada (Terry) Partin of Ada; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; two brothers: Chester (Chris) Murphy of Lebannon, TN and Jack (Teresa) Murphy of Texas; and two sisters: Jean Pope of Knoxville, TN and Juelda Strickland of Atlanta, GA.
He was preceded in death by his son, Curt Murphy, grandson, Joshua Murphy and sister, Evelyn Babb.
Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, at LaFayette Missionary Baptist Church at 8230 Anspach Road, rural LaFayette with Rev. Denny Hunter officiating. Burial will be in LaFayette Cemetery, LaFayette with graveside military honors conducted by the Ada VFW Post #9381.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to LaFayette Missionary Baptist Church at P.O. Box 7202, LaFayette, Ohio 45859.
