By Monty Siekerman
The Ada High School scholastic quiz bowl team won the conference championship Saturday at an 8-school competition hosted by Bluffton High School on Saturday.
Ada won by good margins each time they competed. The conference consists of the same schools that are members of the Northwest Conference.
Ada finished 8-0 beating Lincolnview, 20-3; Crestview, 13-4; Spencerville, 11-7, Paulding, 12-7, Allen East, 17-7; Delphos Jefferson, 15-3, Ada 14, Bluffton 5 and Columbus Grove, 10-6. Ada qualifies for regional competition in April.
Dave Lusk has been advisor of the quiz bowl team for the past 37 years.
The team meets each week to practice. Team members are given lists of likely questions/answers to memorize, such as Presidents, books and authors, painters, and music. Their work paid off.
Team members are (front row, from left): Dave Lusk, Lyric Jones, Kiser Colley, Melina Woods and Austin Amburgey; (back row) Noah Pinkney, Alex Hurtig, Erryk Katayama, and Terry Sheridan.
