Women's soccer stars in OAC competition
The No. 13-ranked Ohio Northern women's soccer team saw four athletes named to the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference All-Tournament team this past week.
This marks the first year the Ohio Athletic Conference and women's soccer teams have named an All-Tournament team.
Northern (17-1-2 overall) owned the No. 1 seed throughout the tournament as well as a first round bye.
The Polar Bears advanced to the Tournament finals after tying with Otterbein in the semifinals and winning in PK's, 3-2.
ONU would defeat Capital 2-0 in the tournament championship to claim its second OAC Tournament title in school history.
Seniors Hannah Reich (Howell, Mich.) and Mary Kate Munz (Gahanna/Lincoln) and sophomores Meagan Grierson (Miamisburg) and Rose Nienaber (Cincinnatti/Oak Hills) all earned the honor.
Munz scored the equalizer for the Polar Bears in the semifinal contest against Otterbein to force overtime.
Reich, a 3-time All-OAC honoree, started in both OAC Tournament games and played a pivotal role as Northern's defense only allowed one goal during the tournament.
Nienaber assisted on the first goal in the OAC Tournament championship match and posted five shots during the tournament.
Grierson led ONU in the goal, recording seven saves in the two contests and only allowing one goal.
The sophomore posted her 11th shutout of the season in the championship match, and stopped three of five penalty kicks in the semifinal round to help Northern advance to the tournament finals.
The Polar Bears return to action on Saturday at 11:30 am as they welcome Penn St.-Behrend to Kerscher Stadium during the first round of the NCAA III Tournament.
