You can assist Northern Nursing without Borders
By Monty Siekerman
Northern Nursing without Borders will return to the Dominican Republic for the ninth year, helping about 500 people in four remote villages near San Juan de la Maguana with health care that can make a big difference in how long they live and their quality of life.
The medical mission group appreciates donations of materials. See list below -
About 25 ONU nursing and pharmacy students, faculty, and alumni will make a week-long trip to the Dominican Republic in late May 2018 to assist villagers with assessing their health needs, writing prescriptions, teaching the people how to live a healthier life and, how to take their meds.
The ONU contingent also works with doctors and nurse practitioners who arrive at the Dominican villages from other programs in the U.S.
Tina Liebrecht, assistant professor of nursing, is heading the project for the third year. She said that the students learn how to put in practice what they learn in the classroom and gain an appreciation for the healthcare system we have in the United States.
