Wrestlers place 20th of 35 at Wheaton Invite
WHEATON, Ill. — The Ohio Northern wrestling team placed four wrestlers at the Wheaton (Ill.) Pete Willson Invitational on Friday-Saturday at King Arena.
The Polar Bears finished 10th of 35 teams.
Junior Clayton Davidson (Kirtland) led the Polar Bears with a third place finish at 174 pounds. Davidson was seeded fourth in his weight class and posted a 5-1 record on the weekend.
Fifth-seeded sophomore Nate Barcaskey (Moon Area) placed sixth at Heavyweight. Barcaskey posted a 3-0 record on Friday to reach the semifinals, but medical forfeited his three matches on Saturday to finish sixth.
Senior Gavin Nelson (Oregon/Clay), who was seeded fourth at 157, and freshman Schuyler Caprella (Harrod/Allen East), who was unseeded at 149, each finished seventh in their respective weight classes with 4-2 records.
Senior Seth Meyer (Defiance) went 2-2 at 165 and freshman Cash Thompson (Lake Odessa, Mich./Lakewood) was 2-2 at 184 pounds before behind eliminated on Friday.
In all, six of the Polar Bears' seven wrestlers posted two or more victories and the group finished with a collective record of 19-10 against a very strong field.
Ohio Northern will get back to Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet action on Tuesday when Otterbein comes to the ONU Sports Center for a 7:30 p.m. match.
