Tigers avenge loss to Ada girls
By Cort Reynolds
WAYNESFIELD - Host Waynesfield-Goshen took advantage of cold Ada shooting to build a big lead and held on for a 56-40 girls basketball non-league win Tuesday evening.
The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 4-16 with the defeat, while the Lady Tigers improved to 7-14 with the victory.
Ada trailed 24-6 at halftime after shooting just two for 29 from the field. The Bulldogs outscored W-G 34-32 after intermission, but it was too little, too late.
Senior Anney Archer led Ada with 17 points. Classmate guard Teara Coulson contributed 10 markers, and Bulldog senior Maddie Gossard added six.
The Tiger win avenged a 45-38 loss to Ada at W-G back on December 28 in the semifinals of the inaugural Border Battle tournament.
Ada (0-7 NWC) plays at league co-leader Columbus Grove (11-8, 6-1 NWC) Thursday evening in a key Northwest Conference and regular season finale. Ada is 3-5 on the road this season.
CG is tied with Spencerville (6-1 NWC) for the conference lead heading into the last league game. Bluffton and Crestview are tied for third at 5-2, a game back of the co-leaders.
The Pirates host solid Delphos Jefferson (4-3) while Crestview plays at Spencerville in a key NWC showdown Thursday night.
