A little piece of Americana
By Monty Siekerman
It was a hip hoppin’, jive jumpin’ time at the Railroad Park Friday evening when ONU instrumentalists played an informal concert for all of those who gathered or were drawn in by the music.
Members of Tau Beta Sigma and Kappa Kappa Psi, the honorary band fraternity and sorority, traditionally gather in the park to entertain Adaites the Friday before commencement.
The lively music always begins with the ONU Fight Song. And, it’s a time for longtime Band Director Charles Bates to hand off the baton to students to lead the 30-piece band that evening.
Directing were Nathan Grizenko, Laura Ayers, and Brandon Meadows. Brittney Masters tossed three batons at one time into the air during several songs. And children danced to the music along the walks by the Civil War Monument and on the steps leading up to the caboose.
• Nathan Grizenko directing.
• Brittney Masters, baton twirler.
• Lots of brass.
