Two ONU runners gain regional accolades
ONU senior National Champion Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) and junior All-American Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) have each earned Div. III United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association honors for the 2018 outdoor track and field season.
The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the region's top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, Great Lakes, Mideast, Midwest, New England, South/Southeast, West – match those used during the cross country and indoor track & field season.
Molinaro, a 2-time All-Great Lakes Region Athlete of the Year, is now a 14-time All-Region honor in track and field.
The senior earned honors in the 800 and 1,500-meter runs. Matt qualified for the 2018 NCAA Div. III Outdoor National Championships in both races and will compete in La Crosse, Wis. this weekend in both events.
McVey becomes a 4-time All-Great Lakes Region honoree after earning the distinction in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs.
The junior claimed the Ohio Athletic Conference title in the 5,000-meter run and owns a season and team-best time in the 10,000-meter run in 31:23.01.
Molinaro will represent the Polar Bears at the 2018 NCAA Div. III Outdoor National Championships this weekend as Northern wraps up its season.
