Decades Day homecoming week celebration

Can you guess the decade when poodle skirts were popular with teenage girls?

These elementary teachers, who may be a little past their teen years, sport poodle skirts for Decades Day at the Ada Schools on Wednesday as part of Homecoming Spirit Week.

The one-color, easy-to-sew skirts were popular in the 1950. Models are (from left) Melissa Gossard, Rachel Ludwig, and Heather Etgen.

As the sun sets, Ada Fire, EMS, and Police stand together in remembrance of those who lost their lives on 9/11. Together, the local first responders honored those who gave their lives for others. Fireman Caleb Garmon (see next photo) gave a tribute talk that he wrote. The occasion was held in front of the fire department. Unexpectedly, traffic on Main Street stopped during the solemn occasion, the drivers honoring those who were injured and those who died on that fateful day. (Monty Siekerman photos)

Winningest VB coach in Ohio Athletic Conference and at ONU

Kate Witte won her 700th career victory when the ONU volleyball team swept area rival Bluffton Tuesday at the ONU Sports Center. She is the winningest coach in Ohio Northern volleyball history and in the history of the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Witte is now 700-229 in 28 seasons at ONU, an outstanding winning percentage of .753.

"I am just so grateful to be the head coach at such a fine institution as Ohio Northern University,' Witte said. "This is a testament to the quality of women we have had in our program. I love the ladies on the team right now and I love all of the players that have played for me through the years.”

Here's the bios of the members of this year's Ada HS homecoming court.
