It’s a sunny morning in Ada. A spider rests on a young woman’s hand as a ladybug adorns her index finger. She captures the attention of a roomful of toddlers as she reads aloud from one of the thousands of books she’s grown to love.
She knows many of the stories by heart. It’s afternoon now. You hear her cheery voice lilting with encouragement as she explains to a youngster why eating candy near books that are shared with others is not a good idea.
The Ada Police Department, in conjunction with the ReStore lunch program, will conduct a S.A.F.E.R. Academy for Youth this June at Ada War Memorial Park.
The event is open to children ages 5-17 (parents with young children welcome too) and is intended to provide an overview of the many different agencies involved in the public safety field.
It will be held daily from 10 a.m. until noon the week of June 19-23 prior to the ReStore lunch program.
Each day will feature different organizations and exhibits.
