John "Bud" Mankey, Jr., 1921 - 2018
John “Bud” Mankey, Jr., age 97, died on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Vancrest of Ada.
He was born on April 10, 1921 in Ada, Ohio to the late John M. and Blanche Daisy (Street) Mankey. On September 27, 1946 John married Janice Frederick and she died on November 22, 1989.
John retired from Superior Coach, Lima. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during WWII. He was a member of the Lima VFW Post #1275, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #428 of Kenton, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the AMVets. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
He is survived by three sons: Steve Mankey of Ada, Michael (Richanne) Mankey of Defiance and John Mankey of St. Augustine, FL; a daughter, Pat Allen of Myrtle Beach, SC; seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and two sisters: Pauline Bussinger and Dorothy Bruns both of Arlington.
He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Char Mankey; son-in-law, John Allen; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Pastor Tom Dearth officiating. Burial will be in Dola Cemetery, Dola with graveside military honors conducted by the Lima VFW Post #1275 Honor Guard.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita’s Hospice of Lima.
