Lady Bulldog kickers tie Mustangs
By Cort Reynolds
ADA - The host Ada girls soccer team tied backyard rival Allen East 1-1 in the Northwest Conference and regular season finale on a chilly Saturday morning.
Ada finished the regular season 4-11-1 and 2-4-1 in the NWC (fifth) after the tie.
AE ended up 8-6-4 overall and 4-1-2 in the NWC with the tie, good for third in the league behind Spencerville and Bluffton.
"The game was evenly played the entire match," said Ada head coach Doug Poling.
The game was scoreless at halftime. Ada scored first when Katie Butterfield found the back of the net on a ball played initially at the goal by Julia Kamatali.
AE had a chance to tie moments later, but they missed a penalty kick.
The Mustangs did manage to avoid the upset when Sizemore tallied the equalizing goal late in the contest to bring about the tie.
Both teams put a dozen shots on goal. McKenzie Long made 11 saves in goal for Ada.
In a scheduling oddity, the backyard rivals meet again for the second time in four days when the Bulldogs visit the Mustangs in first round sectional tournament play Tuesday, October 16.
The Lady Bulldogs also lost at home to Upper Sandusky 2-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The Rams improved to 7-8-1 with the win.
Ada ended up 2-5-1 at home and 2-6 on the road this regular season.
