Two Polar Bears receive OAC honors
Senior All-American Ryan Bruns (Chickasaw/Marion Local) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of February 6-12.
Bruns averaged 29 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game last week as the Polar Bears (5-18 overall, 1-15 OAC) defeated Otterbein 75-70 and lost at John Carroll 90-71.
Against Otterbein, he scored 33 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked four shots and followed that up with a 25-point, 11-rebound, 4-block performance at JCU.
With the honor, Bruns earns his second Player of the Week accolade this season and the fourth of his career.
The Polar Bears are set to return to action on Wednesday evening at Heidelberg and will wrap up its 2018-19 season on Saturday at home with Muskingum.
Ohio Northern junior Allison Stevens (Naperville, Ill./Central) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 4-10.
Stevens cleared a career-best 3.75 meters in the pole vault (12' 3.5") to finish second in the event at the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday.
Her effort moved Stevens up to seventh in NCAA Division III in the event.
It marks the third time in the past four week that an ONU pole vaulter has won the award, as junior Maggie Krause (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) was named on Jan. 21 and Feb. 4.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday at the Findlay Flag City Open.
