LIMA SHAWNEE - Visiting Ada won its first match of the tennis season 3-2 at defending Western Buckeye League co-champion Shawnee Tuesday.
The Bulldogs improved to 1-1 after the big win, while Shawnee fell to 0-1 with the loss.
Ada won all three singles matches in straight sets to prevail.
Bulldog senior Cade Mullins dropped just one game at first singles to improve to 2-0.
Junior Isaac Spar lost only two games in winning at second singles and also improved to 2-0.
Ada sophomore Miranda Wills evened her record at 1-1 by winning 12 of 13 games at third singles.
Shawnee won both doubles matches in straight sets, although the second doubles match was close.
"I was extremely pleased with our performance today," said first-year Ada head coach Cody Hurley. "It was a great first win of the season and I'm sure with this group that we will have future success in that department as well.
"Cade, Isaac, and Miranda played fantastic and clinched the win for us," he continued. "Doubles is still a work in progress, but we are making strides in the right direction.
"Overall, beating one of the two reigning WBL champions to get our first win of the season is a great confidence-booster for us moving forward," he added.
