ONU’s Gabby Stewart OAC softballl hitter of the week
Junior catcher/infielder Gabby Stewart (Union, Ky./St. Henry) has been tabbed the Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Hitter of the Week for the third time in her career, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Stewart guided the Polar Bears to an undefeated 6-0 record in OAC action last week, sweeping Wilmington, Capital, and Mount Union over a five-day stretch. The junior led the team with 13 hits on a .591 batting average, four doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI, a 1.045 slugging percentage, and a .615 on base percentage, pacing an offense that averaged 8.83 runs per game.
With her efforts, she now ranks ninth all-time with 30 career doubles, 10th with a .388 batting average, tied for 10th with 10 career home runs, and 20th overall with 128 career hits at Ohio Northern.
The selection marks the first time this season Stewart has garnered the OAC weekly honor. She has now won the award three times in her career, earning the accolade once during the 2017 season and once more in the 2018 campaign.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Baldwin Wallace for an OAC doubleheader at the ONU Softball Field. Game one is slated for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
