ONU men stay undefeated on OAC
Sophomore Vinh Thai (Galloway/St. Charles) broke a 4-4 tie with a thrilling 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles to lead the Ohio Northern men's tennis team to a 5-4 victory at Mount Union on Tuesday afternoon at Whitehill Courts.
The Polar Bears improve to 11-6 overall and stay undefeated in Ohio Athletic Conference play with a 5-0 mark, while the Purple Raiders fall to 9-6, 3-3.
Sophomore Hoang Do (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and freshman Zach Beaschler (Ada) won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles as the hosts held a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
Junior Connor Christian (Gallipolis/Gallia Academy) won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6 singles to tie the match at 2-2 and Beaschler won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 to give ONU a 3-2 lead.
Mount Union regained a 4-3 lead with wins at No. 5 and No. 3 singles, but freshman Noah Elliott (Hilliard/Davidson) won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 singles to tie the match at 4-all.
The Polar Bears will return to action in their final regular season home match on Wednesday against Taylor (Ind.) at the University Courts.
