William Gunther was active in the Hardin Northern community
William Edward Gunther, 77, died on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 7:05 PM at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay, Ohio.
He was born on April 3, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA to William and Wilhelmine (Schmaldienst) Gunther, who preceded him in death. On September 21, 1963 he married Cora Lea Inmon and she survives in Dunkirk.
William retired from Dow Chemical where he worked as an engineer. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran who served from January of 1961 to April of 1963. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Ada. William graduated from West Shore Community College in Ludington, MI and attended the University of Indiana. He was a member of the Disabled Veterans, American Legion, AmVets, Eagles and the local village council for 17 years. He coached girl’s softball for 5 years and served as President of the PTA for 5 years and Junior Achievement for 2 years.
Also surviving are a son, William Peter (Cindy) Gunther of Beaverton, Oregon; a daughter, Amy Marie (Jerry) Weiner of Galion; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; and supportive family friend, Karen White.
William was preceded in death by his daughter, Anne Frances Gunther.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Ada, Ohio with Fr. William J. Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Dunkirk Cemetery, Dunkirk. Graveside Military services will be conducted by the Ada VFW Post 9381 Honor Guard.
Friends may call 5:00 -8:00 PM on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada, Ohio. A Vigil Service will be held at 8:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hardin Northern Food Bank and/or Hardin Northern Public Library in Dunkirk, Ohio.
