Loughman named to CoSIDA first team
Senior infielder Hailee Loughman (Brookville) has earned First-Team Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 accolades from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the 2019 softball season, the national office announced Thursday.
To be considered, student-athletes must be a sophomore-or-higher in academic standing, serve as a starter or important reserve player for their respective team, and have a 3.30 minimum cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale at their current institution. In addition, all nominees must have participated in 50 percent of the team's competitions at their designated position.
Sports information directors at member institutions within the region then vote on nominees based upon their on-field success and academic achievements.
With the announcement, Loughman receives her first career Academic All-District nod. She is also a three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree, a two-time Academic All-OAC selection, a 2019 OAC All-Tournament Team player, and a one-time OAC Hitter of the Week.
This season, the senior led the Polar Bears and ranked fifth in the conference with a .433 batting average. In addition, she led ONU with 55 hits, 14 doubles, a .493 on-base percentage, and a .630 slugging percentage while ranking second on the team with 34 RBI.
Loughman is currently tied for seventh in program history with 14 career home runs and ranks eighth all-time with 35 career doubles. She also stands 15th on the all-time hits list with 143 base knocks.
As a First-Team Academic All-District honoree, Loughman will be placed on the CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot. The All-America teams are scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, June 4.
The Polar Bears ended the 2019 campaign with a 23-19 overall record and a 14-4 league mark, which finished second in the final OAC regular season standings. ONU went on to make its 24th all-time appearance in the OAC Tournament, reaching the championship series before falling to Otterbein.
