ONU women’s soccer team preseason OAC favorite
Women’s team
The Ohio Northern women's soccer team is the preseason favorite to win the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference title according to the OAC Coaches Preseason Poll in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.
Northern received 77 points and five first place votes to edge Otterbein, who received 76 points and the remaining five first place votes.
Capital was picked third with 66 points and Mount Union was picked fourth with 54 points.
The Polar Bears went 14-4-1 overall and were second in the OAC with a 7-1-1 league record. ONU then advanced to the finals of the OAC Tournament with a semifinal victory over Mount Union prior to an overtime loss at Otterbein.
Ohio Northern will open its 2019 schedule on Sept. 30 at the Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) Tartan Cup against Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) under 16th-year interim head coach Mark Batman.
Men’s team
The Ohio Northern men's soccer team was selected to finish third in the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Coaches Preseason Poll in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.
Northern received 57 points in this year's edition of the poll.
John Carroll was selected to defend its 2018 title with 77points and six first place votes. Capital was picked second with 76 points and four first place votes and Mount Union was picked fourth with 56 points.
The Polar Bears went 13-7-2 overall and were fifth in the OAC with a 4-5-0 league record. ONU then advanced to the finals of the OAC Tournament with a pair of victories at Otterbein and Capital before a penalty kick loss at John Carroll.
Ohio Northern will open its 2019 schedule on Sept. 30 at Lake Forest (Ill.) under first-year interim head coach Chris Matejka.
