Women’s tennis opens with tri-match win
The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened its 2019-20 season with victories over Defiance and Lourdes in a tri-match at Defiance's Dix Tennis Facility on Wednesday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (2-0 overall) opened the day with a 9-0 victory over host Defiance (0-2), then topped Lourdes (0-1) 8-1.
Freshman Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) was outstanding in her collegiate debut, winning at Nos 1 and 3 singles and joining senior Mackenzie Wills (Ada) to go 2-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Wills also went 4-0 on the day, posting a 2-0 mark at No. 2 singles.
Senior Katie Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) was 2-0 at No. 4 singles and joined freshman Jeorgia Templin (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) to win at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.
The victory over Defiance marks the 18th consecutive season that the Polar Bears have won their season opener, while the win over Lourdes marked the program debut of the NAIA Grey Wolves.
The Polar Bears will return to action Friday-Sunday at the Oberlin Invitational.
