Katayama paces Ada swimmers at Napoleon Invite

NAPOLEON - Ada senior Klava Katayama won two individual events handily to lead the Bulldog girls to a strong fifth-place finish at the season-opening Napoleon Wildcat Invitational meet Saturday.
Katayama swam to victory in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly events. She won by a whopping 9.04 seconds in the 200 free, and touched the wall 8.74 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher in the 100 fly.
Ada freshman Carlie Oldfield took fourth in two races, while junior Paige Cole took home a fourth and seventh.
Katayama, Cole and Oldfield also Bulldog girls also swam for relay quartets that finished third in the 200 medley relay, and fourth in the 200 freestyle relay. Freshman Kaitlyn Bowden was the other swimmer for both relays.
Ada senior Isaac Spar posted the top boys individual finishes. He came in sixth in the 100 fly and ended up seventh in the 200 individual medley.
Napoleon edged Shawnee to win the boys team title, while Ottawa-Glandorf captured the girls team crown over second-place Bryan. The Bulldog boys finished a solid ninth out of 18 schools, while the Ada girls came in fifth out of 22 teams.
The Lady Bulldogs scored 177 points, and the Ada boys tallied 76 points.
