VITA program available for persons who qualify

Ada area taxpayers can receive free income tax assistance from ONU business students through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), if your income is below $54,000.

The service is available from 5-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings at the business college.

The public relations program at Ohio Northern  won an honorable mention and $500 in the global Peer to Peer (P2P): Challenging Extremism campaign during the 2016-17 academic year. Hosted by EdVenture Partners, Facebook and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, participants of the P2P program were asked to develop a campaign challenging Islamophobia.

March is coming in like a library.
Ada Public Library, 320 N. Main St., posted its March calendar and the Icon shares it with viewers (CLICK TO VIEW).

Among March library highlights include:
• March 1 – Teen pizza waffles (6th to 12th grades), 3:30 p.m.
• March 7 – Family Storytime, 11 a.m. and again at 6 p.m.
• March 14 – ONU mobile clinic, 11 a.m. and again on March 28
• March 17 – St. Patty’s Day party for K to 5th grade, 3:30 p.m.
• March 25 – Animal legends, 10:30 a.m.
• March 30 – Spring art for K to 5th grade, 3:30 p.m.

Usually in February, there is no lack of snow to take photos of, if you live in Ada.  But this year, we are happy to find a snowflake to shoot with a camera. Ada Icon photographer Ken Collins came up with these pics. He writes, "The little bit of snow that we got Saturday began fluffy and became more granular. Photos are up close and personal with one of the latter flakes. It still has the six points even if it is smaller in area." That about sums up 2016-2017 winter in Ada, a winter many (but not all) liked. (Ken Collins photos)

Illinois Wesleyan, Trine and Lakeland (Wisc) play in Ada

No. 5-ranked Ohio Northern will host the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament.

ONU will take on Lakeland (Wis.) on Friday, March 3, in a First Round game in the nightcap of a double header at the ONU Sports Center.

No. 17-ranked Trine (Ind.) and Illinois Wesleyan will play in the first game on Friday night.

The two First Round winners will play at the ONU Sports Center on Saturday night in a Second Round game.
