Trio of ONU athletes receive all-regional awards
The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its All-Region awards. A trio of Ohio Nothern sophomores made the All-Great Lakes Region list.
Nate Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) was honored as an All-Great Lakes Region performer in two different events. He was recognized for his efforts in the 60- and 200-meter dash. Dean ran a season-best 6.99 seconds at the All-Ohio Championships, and recorded a season-best time of 22.09 at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships.
Andrew Buderer (Oak Harbor) — who will join Dean at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships this week — also earned All-Great Lakes Region in pole vault for a second consecutive season. His 2019-20 vault of 4.85 meters is ninth-best in the nation.
Fellow vaulter Luke Shellhaas (Greenville/Versailles) garnered All-Region honors for a second year in a row, as well. He cleared a season-best 4.57 meters at the All-Ohio Championships.
The Polar Bears finished the season with a 54-11 overall record.
