It was a very long wait for the Ada school levy results. After it was official, on May 12 the school levy passed by 14 votes.

The delay was caused by the March 17 primary called off the day before the election. The election deadline was then moved to April 28. And, those unofficial results gave the levy a 9-vote lead.

April 28 vote totals:
For the levy 425
Against the levy 416

However, the April 28 vote count did not include regular absentee ballots and provisional ballots. With those ballot now counted the election was not certified until this week.

May 12 certified vote totals:
For the levy 441
Against the levy 427

The vote passed in the two Ada village precincts and failed in the Liberty Township precinct (see breakdown below).

Meri Skilliter, Ada school superintendent, responded to the vote with the follow message:

“If I had to pick one word to describe how I feel right now it would be grateful.  

“This community continues to be supportive of the school and its children. We want to say thank you to all who voted, despite all of the challenges and uncertainty about what the future looks like in light of the COVID-19 crisis.

“We are ever mindful that in addition to the budget cuts at the state level for the current school year just announced last week, we face potential cuts in the coming year.  

“Having to make cuts is never easy, so the passing of this levy will allow us to make fewer cuts that have the potential to impact our community’s greatest resource, its children.

“I would be remiss if I didn’t publicly thank the amazing levy committee, Chairperson Anna Poling, and Treasurer Bryan Marshall, for all their work, all those who donated time and money, our Board of Education, and our staff, for all of their work and time in promoting the levy campaign.  

“We appreciate all of the amazing people that it takes/took to make a campaign go smoothly.  Being a Bulldog is really a special thing because of people like our Advancing Ada Schools champions.”
