The Ohio Northern women's and men's indoor track and field team competed in the Steemer Showcase Saturday at Wittenberg University.

Senior Maggie Krause (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) paced Northern. She won pole vault, clearing 3.65 meters, while fellow senior Allison Stevens (Naperville, IL./Central) and freshman Anna Schatzle (Brookville, Ind./Franklin County) took sixth and seventh with marks of 3.35 and 3.20, respectively.
There were quite a few people to honor prior to the start of Saturday's game between the Ohio Northern women's basketball team and Muskingum.
Northern head coach Michele Durand was coaching her last regular-season home game inside the ONU Sports Center, and she was recognized alongside four seniors.
The Polar Bears celebrated those five in fine fashion with a lopsided 76-48 victory. The win improved ONU to 19-6 overall and 13-5 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the losses dropped the Muskies to 3-20 overall and 1-17 in conference action.
This school year experienced fewer snow days that last winter. And, it appears that Ada second and third graders plan to do something about that.
Their answer is "Snow Way Out!" a musical with two performances on Thursday, Feb. 27, in the Ada school auditorium. Performances are at 1:15 and 7 p.m.

The new owners of Winter's Wonderland Resort, Jack and Jackie Frost, are ready to have a fun winter season. However, guests are beginning to arrive and there is no snow.
If you heard fire truck and police sirens in Ada around noon on Saturday it was the congratulations cruise through town of the Ada High School Division II state swim meet competitors. CANTON - Ada senior Klava Katayama capped her fine Bulldog career by finishing in the top four of two events at the Div. II Ohio state swim finals Friday in Canton's C.T. Branin Natatorium.
Katayama finished third in the 50-yard freestyle (23.56), and also touched fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (56.12) Friday night. Both were career-best finishes for her at the state meet.
The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse program is still in its adolescent years. The sport was introduced at ONU in 2016, and since that time head coach Beth Hemminger has been pleased with the steps the Polar Bears have taken.
Hemminger hopes to see more steps taken in 2020.
"We saw a lot of growth last year, and there definitely was improvement," Hemminger said. "… I think we've gotten over that hump. We have a group of girls that are extremely competitive and want to win, and they understand what it takes to do that."
