ONU’s Stewart first-team softball academic all-American
Ohio Northern senior Gabby Stewart (Union, Ky./St. Henry) was named First Team Academic All-America in softball in voting conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Stewart, a catcher majoring in nursing, was hitting .393 with three home runs and nine RBI though 10 games this season before the campaign was stopped on March 12 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
She was named First Team Academic All-District 7, 2nd Team All-Central Region and 1st Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference as a junior and was named Second Team All-Conference and Academic All-Conference and was named to the All-OAC Tournament Team as a sophomore in 2018.
Stewart is also a 3-time OAC Hitter of the Week honoree.
She currently ranks among the all-time statistical leaders in ONU history with 112 career RBI (seventh), 14 home runs (seventh), 35 doubles (eighth), 156 base hits (10th) and with a .373 batting average (15th).
Stewart is the 10th Polar Bear softball student/athlete to earn Academic All-America honors and the fifth player to earn First Team honors.
She is the first since 1996 when Melissa Sutton and Maryann Rist earned the honor.
