A campus of trees
Ohio Northern University was recently recognized as a 2019 Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.
Tree Campus USA, which was recently renamed Tree Campus Higher Education, is a national program that honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.
To obtain this distinction, Ohio Northern met the five core standards for an effective campus forest management, including:
• establishment of a tree advisory committee,
• evidence of a campus tree-care plan,
• dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program,
• an Arbor Day observance and
• the sponsorship of student service-learning projects.
The honor is given annually to colleges and universities across the country who meet these requirements.
Since 2009, Ohio Northern has earned the Tree Campus USA recognition a total of 10 times.
