COLUMBUS GROVE - After a close defensive first half, the Ada girls soccer team gave up five second-half goals and lost 6-0 at Columbus Grove Monday evening in a Northwest Conference match.
Ada fell to 2-6 and 0-3 in the NWC with the defeat. CG improved to 6-4 and 4-1 in league play with a victory in the battle of the Bulldogs.
Grove junior Maddie Thompson netted the game's first goal in the 23rd minute, and the score stayed 1-0 to intermission.
Just 1:23 into the second half, CG junior Kenzie King scored to give the hosts a little breathing room up 2-0.
King then re-directed a shot off the bar and bounced it into the net for a 3-0 lead.
With 10:50 remaining, junior Hannah Schroeder scored from the right side off a crossing pass to build the margin to 4-0.
At the 7:32 mark, Grove junior Savannah Ridenour found the back of the net from the left side via a crossing feed.
Ridenour then provided the final margin of six on her second straight goal with 5:50 left.
Grove put 18 of its 21 shots on goal. Two of Ada's three shots were on target, but were both saved.
CG amassed eight corner kicks to one by the visiting Bulldogs.
Ada (1-4 road) plays Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Cory-Rawson.
