Americans may be getting less sleep than they have in previous years, and it might be because of smartphones.

Lack of sleep isn't just linked to chronic conditions like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. It's also tied to poor academic performance among children, as well as motor vehicle crashes.

Recommended Sleep Times

The recommended amount of sleep to get each night varies with age. The National Sleep Foundation recommends the following number of hours of sleep each night:

From Allen County Public Health Department

Allen County Public Health is closely monitoring this situation and is working with the Ohio Department of Health as well as other state and local public health partners and CDC to respond to this emerging public health threat. The goal of the ongoing U.S. public health response is to contain this outbreak and prevent sustained spread of 2019-nCoV in this country. The risk for getting coronavirus is low unless you have traveled to China within the previous 14 days of becoming ill, or have been around someone ill with the virus.

It’s that time of year when we dig out snow shovels out of storage and exchange our shorts for snowsuits. The frigid temperatures and snow-filled driveways can make this season one of the toughest on our backs and achy joints.

When shoveling those snowy driveways and sidewalks this winter, don’t forget to wear well-supported shoes with good traction to reduce the risk of a fall. Also, when lifting heavy snow, don’t forget to bend your knees and keep your back straight. If you must turn, pivot with your feet and do not twist your back.

A win would seal another Northwest Girls’ League championship for Ada. Last year’s team, undefeated in the league, went on to win the tournament to finished with a 13-0 season record.

It's a classroom communication tool that makes it easy to stay involved with your child's learning

Ada schools announced on Bulldogs Facebook that the school is rolling out Remind districtwide.

It's a classroom communication tool that makes it easy to stay involved with your child's learning. Remind is free to use, and parents will be able to get and send messages on any device—even a simple text message from your phone.

As part of this rollout, official accounts will be created for all the educators, parents, and students at Ada Schools.

On Jan. 29 parents received an email or text message from Remind. All that is needed to take place next is to follow the steps in the message to finish setting up an account.
