If Ada's streets could talk. Well, they can't, but when you slice the street and look at it straight on, it tells a story. Here's the intersection of Johnson and University in the midst of street work. There's a top layer, a brick layer, a second brick layer, and a crushed stone layer that takes us back to horse and buggy days. Are you listening? It does talk.

Registration is open for 2019-20 school year for ages 3 and up

Ready, Set, Grow Preschool announces its open house for the 2019-20 school year. The event is from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and 5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 8, at First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Main St., Ada.

Registration is open for 2019-20 school year for ages 3 and up:
• All-day care ($24/day)
• Half-day care ($15/day)
• Preschool (price varies on days enrolled per week).

The school has 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-day enrollment options to meet scheduling needs.

The school also has an after school care for grades K-5 for $30 per week. Contact the school at 419-634-0000 to schedule an appointment.

The summer reading program may be over, but the Ada Public Library has lots of events planned in August. Here's a copy of the August library's calendar of events.

Ruth Anne Osbourn received an Outstanding of the Day at the Ohio State Fair on her graphic design project. She is a home schooled student in the Upper Scioto Valley school district.

Callie Burgess, Ada elementary student, is a winner at the Ohio State Fair. She earned an honorable mention in a 4-H project "Cats 1 - Purrfect Pals." Callie is a member of the Boots and Buckles 4-H Club.

August and September are full of events in Ada.

The Icon’s Hometown Happenings two-month listing of events reveals everything from Farmers and Merchants Picnic, Made in Ada Wilson Football Festival, ONU students returning to campus, Ada schools starting and the Harvest and Herb Festival.
