Big 4th period leads Lady Bulldogs past LCC
By Cort Reynolds
LIMA - The visiting Ada girls basketball team poured in 23 fourth-period points to rally past former league foe Lima Central Catholic 46-35 Thursday night.
The Lady Bulldogs led 9-4 after the first period and 14-12 at intermission after a low-scoring first half. LCC edged in front 24-23 heading to the fourth quarter.
But Ada dominated the final period 23-11 behind sophomore Courtney Sumner, who scored nine points, and seven markers from senior Miranda Wills.
The purple and sank nine of 14 foul shots in the final stanza as they doubled the output of their first three periods in the fourth quarter alone.
"We rebounded well and we got to the line," said Ada third-year head coach Morgan Bass. "We had a huge fourth quarter, scoring 23 points.
"Overall it was a great team win," she added.
The Bulldog girls improved to 3-8 overall with the win. LCC fell to 5-9 with the defeat.
Sumner and Wills each tallied 14 points to pace the victors. Wills nailed a trey and nine foul shots.
Bulldog senior guard Kylie Acheson netted a season-high nine points on the strength of two triples.

Ada (2-4 road) plays at tough non-league foe Cory-Rawson (8-5) Saturday afternoon, Jan. 16 in a makeup game. The Lady Hornets are coming off a 78-32 loss to BVC leader Liberty-Benton Thursday night.
"Cory is better this year but I am hoping to play with more confidence coming off this win," said Bass of C-R. "There is no reason we can't compete with them."
The Lady Hornets, led by senior southpaw Zoe Chisholm, won the Bluffton Holiday tournament in late November for the first time in program history.
Ada then hosts non-league Hardin County rival Ridgemont (5-7) in a rare Monday night contest, Jan. 18.
