Ada community steps up and helps out

Friends and neighbors, relatives and strangers have opened their hearts and pocketbooks for Sam’s funeral expenses. A GoFundMe account was set up with donations reaching $8,200 as of Sunday night. The goal is $8,400.

Samuel (Sam...Sammy) Rowold was only 13 years old when he passed away Feb. 23 in a pond near his home just northeast of Ada. The teenager was non-verbal autistic.

Donations above the cost of the funeral will be given to the Autism Support Group from Hardin County to buy GPS bracelets for other autistic children to help keep them safe.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Ohio Northern baseball team opened its 2018 season by splitting a double header with Nebraska Wesleyan on Sunday at Lake Myrtle Park Field.

The Polar Bears got three home runs and a stellar pitching performance to win the opening game 8-4.

The Prarie Wolves (1-1) scorted five unearned runs in the third inning and went on to win the nightcap 8-5.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Ohio Northern softball team opened its 2018 season with a pair of victories at the Sunkissed Games on Sunday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (2-0 overall) started the day with a 2-0 victory over DeSales (Pa.) and ended the day with a 10-5 win over Muhlenberg (Pa.)

In the opener, senior Kirsten Lightel (Tallmadge) threw a 2-hit shutout with seven strikeouts to pick up the win.
