ODOT's 1,629 snowplow trucks have been inspected and are ready to roll.
Last year, which wasn't a terribly snowy season, saw ODOT trucks drive over 6.8 million miles (or like 275 trips around the Earth). Crews used 600,000 tons of salt and 12 million gallons of deicer on the 43,000 lane miles of roadway.
And they have a pleas for you:
While we work hard to clear snow and ice, we need your help as well. ODOT plows were struck 35 times in 2016. Please be sure to give our drivers plenty of room to work. Plow trucks typically drive much slower than other traffic, so be extra alert when driving near them.

The Ohio Northern wrestling team enters the 2017-18 season with high hopes under 30th-year head coach Ron Beaschler.
The Polar Bears return 12 lettermen and eight starters from last year's squad that posted an 11-4 dual meet record, went 4-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and was 11th of 16 teams at the NCAA III Midwest Regionals.
ONU has posted ten consecutive winning seasons and has finished with more wins than losses in 45 of the program's 52-year history.
With high levels of talent and experience returning on the roster, combined with a solid incoming freshmen class, it is easy to see why optimism abounds in the ONU wrestling camp.
The inspirational story of Brad Hurtig, who overcame a devastating industrial accident when he lost both arms while a sophomore in high school, will be the headline speaker at a health and wellness expo on Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Armory in Kenton. He will speak at a noon luncheon. The expo runs from 10 a.m. until noon.
ODOT reports three area roads are now open:
• State Route 309 between TR 25 and CR 35, north of Alger, is now open following the replacement of three culverts.
• State Route 117 just south of Roundhead is now open following a culvert replacement.
•State Route 235 at its intersection with TR 92, within the village of Alger, is open following water line repair.
