All because of a taped-up finger

By Monty Siekerman
I had a middle finger problem, but this ain't no story where I admit to a shrink that I need help, advice, counseling.

It was a garden accident.

That's all I'm going to say. (Well, there were 11 stitches.) In time, the injury healed.

But the ribbing was constant, especially when friends and foe saw the erect middle finger bandaged (big bandage) in neon yellow. And, the digit had a splint on it for 10 days.

There was no way to hide it. It stood out like a sore thumb.

Don't be surprised If you see a kangaroo hopping around the United Methodist Church on Tuesday morning because the Ada Public Library is sponsoring a program by the Exotic Zoo of Farmington Hills, Mich. The free program will begin at 11 a.m.
Other animals scheduled to be on hand include a Siberian lynx, honey bear, exotic birds, and more.

All are welcome to the 60-90 minute program at the Ada First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Main.

Many library programs will be held at other locations in the next several months due to the library's addition and renovation.

Easy to bake, quick to polish off

Thanks to the Ada Music Boosters most freezers in Ada are full of blueberries.

We don’t know your favorite blueberry pie recipe, so we made one up in honor of the Boosters. It’s pretty easy to create.

Turn over to 400 degrees

• Pie crust (buy it or make it – your call)

1 ½ cup yogurt
¼ cup sugar
1 teaspoon corn starch
1 egg
2 teaspoons lime juice (okay, lemon if you must)
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups of blueberries

We mixed the egg, lime juice, vanilla together and poured that mixture into the rest of the ingredients. Stir it up and pour into the pie crust.

Here are the senior members of the 1987-88 high school flags. From left, Chris Manley, Amy Shroyer, Deb West, Monica Chambers and Amy Curtis. According to the school yearbook, these were new uniforms. The flag corp finished third in the Allen County Fair band show.

The Icon spotted this plate on Main Street, Bluffton. It's a Hancock County plate that you'll find on a dark red Sonata.

Once upon a time in Ada

Things you didn’t know about your own hometown

1904 in Ada:

May 1904: Paving of Main Street began. Residents recalled “Swag Run” that crossed Main Street at the square (Buckeye Avenue) and “Lake Holder” owned by H.M. Holder back in the 40’s where the First National Bank stands. He finally filled the pool with ashes and saw dust.

December 1904: The foundation for the Rail Road tower to pneumatically operate protective gates at Main and Johnson was started. The tower was torn down in 1960.
