Stella DeWitt, Kayla Silva All-Great Lakes
Senior Stella DeWitt (Weston/ Cardinal Stritch) and junior Kayla Silva (Westerville/ South) were named All-Great Lakes Region in Women's Indoor Track & Field for 2021 by the USTFCCCA.
To earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be one of the top-5 individuals in their respective region on the final TFRRS Descending Order List. In addition, each member of a region's top-3 relay team was also selected for distinction.
Silva was named All-Region in both the 60 and 200-meter dash events after earning All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors in each.
She is the school record holder in the 60 and is now a two-time All-Region honoree in the event.
DeWitt was named All-Region in the 60-meter hurdles.
She was also named All-region in the long jump as a freshman in 2018.
The Polar Bears finished third at the 2021 OAC Indoor Championships.
Sunday, March 21 event
Seniors Kathleen Colvin (Hilliard/Bishop Ready) and Kylie Vestal (Youngstown/ Austintown Fitch) each won events to lead the Ohio Northern women's track and field team in its 2021 outdoor season opener on Sunday at Don Drumm Stadium.
The Polar Bears (6-2 overall) finished third out of nine teams with 89.5 points by dominating the distance events in the Maritta OAC Opener.
Vestal led a 1-2-3-4 ONU finish in the 5,000-meter run by winning the event in 18:35.65.
Junior Tessa Pitcovich (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) was second in 18:51.65, junior Rue Whitmore (Mason) was third in 19:10.79 and freshman Megan Vapenik (Strongsville) was fourth in 19:32.38.
Vestal won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:20.65.
Junior Taylor Ellerbrock (Columbus Grove) was second in the 1,500 run in 4:56.52.
Junior Sophia Thompson (Mount Vernon/Highland) was second in the 10,000 run in 43.46.22.
Sophomore Anna Schatzle (Brookville, Ind./Franklin County) was second in the pole vault by clearing 3.23 meters.
John Carroll won the team title with 189 points, Otterbein was second with 159 points and Marietta was fourth with 81 points.
