Charles E. “Gene” Downing, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 6:02 PM at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born on October 1, 1948 in Rushsylvania, Ohio to the late Harold and Nellie (Grubbs) Downing. On October 13, 1970 Gene married Juanita M. Hollis and she survives in Alger.

Gene retired from the Village of Alger, where he worked in the town maintenance department. 

Also surviving are six sons: Gene Brunson of West Mansfield, Dean Brunson of Bellefontaine, Matthew (Darlene) Downing of Roundhead, Chuck Downing of Alger, Robert (Angela) Downing of Alger and Joshua (Becky) Downing of Alger; a daughter, Brandy Lawrence of Alger; thirteen grandchildren; a sister, Kay Close of Harpers ferry, WV; and a niece, Peggy Dickinson of West Liberty.  

Gene was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021 at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Alger.
