Ada girls shut out at Pirates

By Cort Reynolds

Visiting Ada fell behind early and lost 5-0 to local rival Bluffton in the Northwest Conference finale Wednesday evening, October 13, at Steinmetz Field.

Injury-plagued Ada dropped to 2-10-1 and 0-5-1 in the NWC after the loss.

The Pirate girls improved to 11-3-1 overall and 5-1 in NWC play with the convincing makeup game victory.

Defending league champion Bluffton finished second in the league standings to Columbus Grove (6-0).

Bluffton built a 4-0 lead in the first 17 minutes.

Pirate Riley Eachus scored in the very first minute off an Allison Diller assist to put the hosts on top.

Diller then netted the second goal on a return assist from Eachus in the fourth minute.

Eachus tallied again in the seventh minute to advance the lead to 3-0.

Marley Kindle extended the margin to 4-0 with yet another goal in the 17th minute. The score stayed that way into halftime 23 minutes later.

Sami Scoles tallied the final goal just under five minutes into the second half to provide the final margin.

The Pirate offense put 33 shots on goal vs. Ada. The Bulldogs got off just one shot, which was saved by Pirate junior keeper Julia Mehaffie.

"I thought defensively, we were much better tonight," said Ada head coach A.J. Wahlie. "It isn't great to be shut out away from home, but we will take the positives from the match and march forward."

Bulldog senior keeper Olivia Green was credited with 27 stops.

Ada hosts Miller City Thursday, October 15 at 5 p.m. in the regular season finale. It will be Senior Night for the Bulldog girl kickers.

The Ada girls will then play Cory-Rawson Tuesday, October 19 at 5 p.m. in Div. III sectional first round action.
